A monograph on Miroslav Tichý’s unconventional, artisanal and evocative photographic work – blurred, underexposed photos, mostly of women, taken with handmade cameras. Following his studies at the Academy of Arts in Prague, he lived in isolation in his hometown of Kyjov, Moravia. The images are fascinating, unusual in their formal qualities, and indifferent to the rules of conventional photography. “They constitute a large oeuvre of poetic, dreamlike views of feminine beauty in a small town under the Czechoslovak Communist regime.” The collection includes several texts about Tichý and his work, plus song lyrics by Nick Cave dedicated to the artist.
